Three recent projects — the brief, the material decisions, and how each one actually turned out.
Full renovation · Tangier medina
Riad El Bahia
Brief: A four-bedroom riad bought in disrepair, with a client who wanted the original zellige and beams preserved but the plumbing, wiring, and courtyard drainage brought fully current.
Decisions: Kept every original tile panel that survived, re-set them rather than replacing. New plaster (tadelakt) mixed to match the aged patina of what remained instead of a flat, new-build white. Courtyard re-graded so the fountain could run again without pooling.
Outcome: Delivered in nine months. The client now rents two rooms as a small guesthouse — the original character is what guests book it for.

Boulevard Pasteur Apartment
Brief: A 1950s apartment with good bones — high ceilings, herringbone floors — but chopped into small, dark rooms by decades of ad-hoc partitions.
Decisions: Removed two non-structural walls to open the living/dining run toward the balcony light. Kept the herringbone floor as the material anchor and built the new palette (plaster, brass, walnut) around its warm tone rather than fighting it.
Outcome: The apartment now reads twice its actual square footage. The client's favorite detail: the original floor survived intact under three layers of old carpet.
Boutique retail interior · concept store
Studio Roukaya
Brief: A small jewelry and textile concept store needed to feel considered and quiet — not another white-cube retail shell — on a tight fit-out budget.
Decisions: Built the entire fit-out around three material families (raw plaster, aged brass, undyed wool) instead of a larger, more expensive palette. Display fixtures designed to be moved and reconfigured seasonally rather than built in.
Outcome: Fit-out came in under budget by reusing the existing floor rather than replacing it. The owner reports customers regularly ask who designed the space.
